Progress on Simplicity 1696: Floral Pants

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone on the awesome comments re: my mini wardrobe...and my crazy July output.

My hand is kicking my tookus so I haven't had a ton of online activity because typing and cell phone use only aggravates it. At some point during the ride home from Memphis I did something weird and holy cow! My middle and ring finger went completely numb. Time to shop for a 2nd opinion...

Construction on my floral pants has started!

I am really digging this S1696 pattern. I like the pockets a little more than my S2700 TNT pants pocket. We'll see if they do a better job of staying flat...

But geesh does pockets take up a ton of time!?! Whew!

Tonight I'll stitch my darts and faux welts (I'll try real welts another time...but I know I don't want actual pocket bags in back so I have been unmotivated to make them in any of my pants), and sew the waistband pieces to the pants pieces. Then tomorrow I'll be ready to baste them together to tweak the fit.

Hope to have them all done Friday and move on to my other items.

The fly is now done. Crazy floral pants deserve crazy polka-dot pocket bags!

I have an unhealthy fascination with making belt loops. It's ridiculously cool to me!

  2. LOL at the belt loops. I used the tutorial for the Thurlows over at Lladybird for the welt pockets and it was awesome. http://lladybird.com/tag/thurlow-sewalong/
I do hope your hand feels better. My wrist/hand hurt for the longest time and the Chiropractor was the only one who has made it better - surprisingly! I see her once a week and by day 6 my hand starts to hurt again but up to then it is almost normal. just my 2 cents ;-)

    1. Thanks Kristin!

I've practiced them...I'm just not motivated to actually use them cause my RTW pants with real back pockets annoy me! :)

Oooh I haven't been to the chiropractor in forever! Good to know.

  3. Awesome floral pants!!!! I hope your hand feels better soon too. I love the coordinating fabric you used for the pockets. I will have to keep that in mind when I sew my jeans.

  4. FLORAL PANTS! I'm excited about this. I've not made any and always love what I see other people do. And oddly enough belt loop making is satisfying?! A couple months ago I had to make a ton of them to add them onto a neighbors 5 pairs of shorts... I found it zen-like to bust them out and sew them up.

    1. I've wanted a pair for a loooong time but I thought I was "too big" to wear flowers on my butt. Meh!

      Belt loops are pretty awesome.

  7. The details are always the biggest time-suck in sewing! But they also make all the difference.

Sorry to hear about your poor hand/fingers. Sounds like repetitive motion injury to me...when it happened to me I had a lot of forearm pain, too. This is going to suck, but I would recommend to not really do anything unnecessary with your hands for a week and see if it clears up or starts to feel better! Also, pay attention to the position you sleep in - wrists turned back or arms above your head can aggravate things.

    1. I have a long, sad history with carpal tunnel and tendonitis. I sleep with a big stupid brace every night :) Round upon round of cortisone shot, resting, icing, heating...

I am now exploring surgery. :(

      The details. The details!!! Eek.

I'm now in the fine tuning of the fit. Baste, unpick, sew. Baste, unpick, sew. WHINE! lol!!!

  8. So sorry to read about your hand. I do hope something can be done to make things better for those crafting hands and fingers. I know what it's like. The fabric is really pleasant. Can't wait to see you wearing them.

  13. I've just started on this pattern, I've just done the pockets. First ever pair of trousers that I've tried. Saw your finished ones in your gallery - hope mine turn out as nice as your floral ones.
