New McCall's! And Other's...

I'm surprised I haven't seen many reviews of this latest release. Mostly because, it is AWESOME!!!!

And others??

Yeah, aside from costumes, the Simplicity release was pretty weak. And as per the usual, they are not up on their site yet. New Look's fall release is nearly entirely composed of re-released patterns. Some of them aren't even discontinued yet under their original number! Oy!

Simplicity patterns are up on Pattern Review. The only two I really liked were:

1018: A great knit dress

SO MUCH movement!

1012: A 60s vintage pattern

Honorable mention; 1016: The MimiG coat

I have an altered Lekala pattern that I bought and 'hacked' after deciding I liked the Papercut Watson, but not enough to spend that kind of money on it. Also, I prefer the Papercut capelet, how it is integrated into the seam at the front

Now let's get to the GOOD stuff!

7256 is a little too much for me but man that would make an awesome dress coat!

7262 is a Khaliah Ali pattern. Very cute. And it reminds me of my Burda coat with the crazy sleeve!

7242 looks awesome! I doubt I will make a fall maxi dress but it's gorgeous

7244 works without looking too young. There was another McCall's where it looked a bit too "ruffly" on the bottom. This is subtle...

7240: LOVE.

7241 I don't normally do a dropped waist but this one with the pleating is calling me. Plus it has cup sizing!!!!

7242; I like.

7245: I don't love their fabric choice and the sleeves are a bit much for everyday. But I am loving this dress. The little inset at front? Swoon.

7259: Drama in a good way!

7258: I had a pouty moment when I saw this was only in plus sizes.

7254?! ALL the yeses!!!!

7247 has had several similar-looking predecessors...

7251 I almost missed due to hideous fabric. This top is pretty awesome.

I predict 7249 being popular

7261; I don't even sew activewear but this pattern makes me want to!!!

Changing Plans and...More Stash

I had plans to do more work on my red pants this weekend and make a new knit top. But then, DH  "remembered" that we are going to a wedding next Saturday.

Well of course I CAN'T pass up an opportunity to make a non-casual dress!!!! So I started looking through my options and then chose 2 - a knit and a woven. But I did not have enough fabric.

(**when I don't know what I'm going to make I generally get 2 yards. I think I need to change that to 3 yards.**)

So from the time I took this picture and had intentions on writing this post, I started the dress. For some odd reason, of all the adjustments I need to make; I am bothered by the need to lower the bust curve on princess seams. It's a silly thing to be bothered by; I don't care that I need to cut a 16 or 18. I don't care that I need to adjust for my butt. I don't care that I need a larger waistline...but the dang lowering of the bust point drives me a little crazy. Weird.

I also added 3/4" to the bodice length because these types of dresses tend to be short.

I was in the zone, right? And I made this happen:

I kicked butt on this point! And I beautifully trimmed and clipped and under stitch and pressed.

And then I read  the directions and uh...I was supposed to attach the "yoke" aka the strap between the bodice and facing.

I HAVE TO UNDO ALL THE THINGS!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, not all of it. Only the part that the strap needs to attach to. Gah. So I'll unpick that part and fix it. I plan to get the bodice done tonight, check the fit, and finish up tomorrow.

******************************

I bought more patterns. Didn't I *just* say...?? Oh never mind! They were $.99!

Oy.

There's a small new Simplicity collection (HERE on Pattern Review!)

A few new ones...

I promise I'm done buying fabric for awhile. Wait. Excluding my two upcoming trips to SR Harris!

When I got home and saw the box I realized that I'd forgotten that I ordered it! ooooops!

OMGeeeeee the colors are so vibrant on all of these!

Jersey knits. I think the black & white animal print will become a cardigan.

New Simplicity Patterns and RTW Inspiration

The early-fall Simplicity patterns were released and meh. I am not in a frenzy much at all.

I loves me some C.R. so I want every pattern she releases. Always.

Love view A (don't care much for the others); realized I don't need to buy a new pattern to make it (see how I'm evolving?!?!)

I don't need this one but I love raglan sleeves.

The pattern envelope photos are too hideous to show

*LOVE* this romper (?) but I know I'd never make it

Seriously Simplicity?

It'll take a fellow sewer to get me excited about this pattern. As it stands pictured - meh. The tech drawing is what matters though and it is promising.

Finally...Just...No. Please. No.

Unisex patterns tend to go verrrry badly and these look horrific on both of them.

In other news, I was in my favorite store in the entire world; Target and happened upon a clearance rack.  I got a cute baseball tee for Dougie for $1.56 and two tops for me for $2.56 each. Same top, one black, one ivory. Pretty cute with it's lace overlay and lace sleeves...

Except it was a knit top with non-stretch lace. Hellllllo sausage casing sleeves. I was all 'woe is me' and then my light bulb lit up.

If you don't like it as is; you can change it

I found a nice "break" on the lace and cut it! Wearable tees for cheap!

Then I tried on this vest (I will stab my ears out if I hear "sleeveless blazer" again)

Shoulders fit VERY well...

The rest of it?? Ehhhh. Not so much

This makes complete sense though as my pattern measurements work well when I do a 14 neck/shoulders, 16 waist, 18 hip.

The crazy deep armholes were also a little bit of a turn off. BUT I was sold on the look!

I have a Simplicity pattern that I'll whip up (hahaha). I'd like to cut the armholes down a bit but not as low as the inspiration vest.

My top is coming along (just needs buttons and buttonholes!!) but we've been so busy and away from home so much that I haven't had much time at all to sew.
