New Vogues!

In a funk. Mojo --> over there. So everyone needs to get to blogging so I can peruse the interwebs and read happy sewing stories!!! I might go pet my stash or something.

In the meantime I may as well give my +/- over the latest Vogue release.

For me; there is no fanfare. It's like 97.235% dresses. Dresses are awesome. I love dresses. I can't wear dresses day to day and probably won't reach for one on the weekend til May -- although I was lamenting over the snow we got last year, Mother's Day weekend, that foiled my plans to wear a pretty floral rayon challis maxi dress -- so maybe June.

What I will likely buy:
9006
Love A & B (can't do those sleeves on C)

*maybe* 9014.
Love the collar and back buttons. Maybe when there is a $3.99 sale.

What I like but likely won't buy:
1392
My narrow shoulders would love this, unsure about the bosom though.

8997
Isn't that beautiful??!

8991

Just gorgeous. But above my current "pay grade" ;)

9001
LOOK AT THAT SEAMING!!!! If you're an A/B cup... No way are DDs fitting comfortably.

1402
Yes, it probably is the fabric. Still. Swooooon.

1390
This just isn't special enough to make me pay $5 (spoiled Americans). And I think that all sizes A-J in one envelope is too much of a good thing. That sounds kind of nightmarish actually.

Meh:
9008
Those shorts look hideous on the tiny, thin, tall model. Why is she wearing her grandpa's shorts?

9013
Whoda thunk there was a high waist skirt hiding under there, O_o. Nice Vogue.

No. Just, No:
1400

A sack with giant boob pockets, deep neck slit, "cold shoulders" and a deep back slit. Too. Many. Things. At least just market it as beach wear or something and not a dress.

9003
800 yards of peplum...

Vogue is on sale at Hancock through 4/1. My Hancock is awesome. I bet I can score 9006 during this sale.

**oooh there were some vintage patterns and a lingerie pattern released too. If you're into that sort of thing!

  1. I didn't see much of anything I liked with the new releases, except the wrapped dress and something else that I can't remember. That should tell you how excited I was about the latest collection. Meh.

I agree it isn't write home material.

  4. I had to work hard to be excited with this round of patterns. I have almost forgotten which I liked. I guess I'll save money.

  5. I like the cowl neck blouse - but I think I have a similar OOP pattern in the stash somewhere (McCall's maybe?), so I can give it a pass. I like a lot of the designer dresses, but when I think, "Would I wear this?" or "Would I rather sew this than (insert pattern from the stash)?" the answer is mostly no. I do like 8997 and 8991 though. The lingerie and shrug patterns were pretty cute too.

    1. Exactly. I have a ton of dress patterns. They will probably never be sewn up

  6. If you can't find it at Hancocks Joanne's will price match.

    1. My JoAnn stinks. I almost refuse to waste my time shopping for patterns there. They get them in WAYYYY after the release (or at least they get them in the drawers late) and the drawers are a nightmare to navigate. They're not in order. I get stressed out and leave every time so I had to just stop going there for patterns...

    2. You could try calling them the same day, and asking them to hold them, Then you can get in and out.

  7. I ordered 8997 this morning (just couldn't resist!) but I laughed when I checked the pattern back to see how much fabric for the gorgeous (but basically impractical) 9001 dress - nine yards!!!!!! Holy Moly. Looking forward to seeing what you succumb to :-)

    1. NINE YARDS OF FABRIC?!?!?!!!! How can you wear 9 yards of fabric?!

  8. Boob pockets! Ha!! I don't have enough boobage to fill those pockets. Yeah, enough with the dresses here Vogue. They are pretty and lovely but I want separates. It's like they are catering the "brand new seamstress" mindset... you know when you were brand new to sewing and all you want to make are the pretty flouncy dresses... but then eventually you realize you need shirts. 8991, the jacket with the curved cuff sleeve is my favorite, but I feel like that's for winter... I hate winter right now so I'm not sewing that anytime soon. And I'm in a little sewing slump, too... but I did bust out a Burda 3/2014 #105 (a cropped, mullet hem shirt!) this week as an experiment (not my usual cup of tea). I gotta take it into the light of day from my sewing room hole in the basement and photograph it. Go make 9006, I think I'll get that one, too... I want to see it on a real person.

    1. I hate winter!!!! I don't want to sew anything remotely related to cold either. Boooo!

I mean there are like no separates. You need separates!

Hurry and photo it!!! I was thinking of making that one!

  9. I love the 9006 top, view C (the one you don't like, lol). I gotta have sleeves.

    1. Hahaha! This is what makes all this so awesome. What one person shuns, the next one loves. It's pretty stinking amazing :)

I'm going to stalk Hancock this weekend...

  10. I didn't see anything I needed to buy in this release, either. Anything that I actually *liked* wouldn't look good on my figure. The rest was meh. Maybe I'll change my mind once people start making them up and posting reviews and/or blogging.

    1. I know...I usually like things a bit more once they start floating around...but there are just SO many dresses! LOL! I think I've made 4 or 5 dresses total since I started sewing.

  11. I liked a lot of the patterns but was disappointed. I have an apple shaped body and the patterns do not seem to support the fuller busted.Adjustments can always be made though.

    1. True. I wish *EVERY* woven top or dress came with cup sizes. Ahhhhh. to dream :)

  12. 8991 is divine - but as you say, not so easy to make. Some years the patterns do not inspire, do they?

  13. I had to laugh at Kathy's comments. Yes, it's so much fun to sew dresses, but then you realize you need shirts:) I confess I'm guilty. There are two dress patterns I might buy for myself (8992 and 8994) and my daughter is interested in 8996. I like that 9006 top and I'm still thinking about the buttoned-in-the-back top. The reality is I have a huge backlog of potential projects and I really should stop looking at more patterns and fabric. But it's so much fun......

  14. This review totally cracked me up! 'Grandpa shorts'! Hah! And I didn't even notice how many dresses are in this new collection ... but I think dresses get a bad rap. Throw some pockets in those suckers and they're actually pretty effortless.*

(*Especially if you're lazy and sew them out of mid-weight ITY. No need to line them, just stitch and wear!)

    1. Dresses ARE awesome! I just can't wear them to work...and apparently not on the weekends either from Late October - Mid April so. LOL!

Pockets. Every garment on earth should have pockets.
